Rally to the Death

Rally to the Death by Douglas Rutherford (1974)
Bradbury Press. 166 pages. Hardbound. Out of print.
ISBN 0-87888-084-4

From the book jacket:
As the Daily Post reports it: "Girl rally driver Kate Peterson has got the men worried in this year's 2,300-mile Rally of the Forests, acknowledged as one of the toughest events in the international racing calendar. Eighteen-year-old Kate has brought her car up from 45th to 15th position, despite a mishap in a night stage in the Welsh forests..." The "mishap" is just one of the many dangers encountered by Kate, Tim Ryder and Tim's younger brother, Nick, at the hands of the Rough Justice Commando.

The RJC is using Kate's entry in the rally to"settle a score" with her sponsor, the Daily Post, and they will stop at nothing to eliminate her from the race. Plenty of driving action and real danger builds up to a terrifying climax as Kate and Tim find themselves "carnapped" and buried alive.
