Rocket Rally Racing ready for second winter rally

The Rocket Rally Racing Team is looking to get shot. Through a camera lens, that is.

Rocket Rally Racing, a B.C.-based rally team taking part in the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship, has started a Photographer’s Contingency Program to boost the team’s profile and to increase fan participation in the sport of performance automobile rallying.

"I want the fans to get involved with the team," says Patrick Richard, team owner/driver. "This is a great way for us to meet them. And to see how we look from their perspective, outside the car."

Open to amateur and professional photographers alike, this program begins immediately, at the Rallye de Quebec, January 28 to 29 in Quebec City and surrounding areas. This program will be in effect for all events the Rocket Rally Team attends in the 2000 Subaru Canadian Rally Championship.

The team will award prizes of $100, $50 and $25, respectively, for the first, second and third most spectacular photographs of the Rocket Rally Car, a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS, sponsored by Dragon Eyewear and Specialty Subaru of North Vancouver.

"We’re looking for all kinds of photos – action shots, static shots, you name it," says Ian McCurdy, team co-driver/navigator. "The more the better. We encourage all organizers, competitors and fans to circulate information about this program."

To qualify, all photos must be submitted to the team within two weeks of the rally, either by emailing a reproduction or by mailing the original. Emailed submissions are preferred. Rocket Rally Racing encourages photographers to submit multiple entries, and individuals are entitled to win multiple awards. Photos that do not win a prize, but are still of interest or use to the team, may be purchased from the submitting photographer. Photographers will be given credit if and when their photo is used. All entries become the property of Rocket Rally Racing.
