Rocket Rally Racing blasts off, with a full rally schedule

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Patrick Richard, of Vancouver, B.C., is pleased to announce the formal naming and launch of Rocket Rally Racing, the first B.C.-based rally team in years to contest all the major rally events of the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship.

"We wanted to kick off our first full national season with a great team name and image," said Richard, team owner/driver. "Rocket Rally Racing creates a targeted brand and opens up some new marketing possibilities for our current sponsors, Dragon Eyewear and Specialty Subaru of North Vancouver."

Richard and co-driver/navigator Ian McCurdy, of Whistler, B.C., first entered the sport of performance automobile rallying in May, 1999 at Rocky Mountain Rally in Calgary, Alberta. There, in their 1998 Subaru Impreza, they made a name for themselves as a team to watch for. After finishing second overall in the regional and following that event up with a string of wins and top-tier finishes, Richard was selected as one of the "21 Stars For The 21st Century," in Sports Car magazine. The team also captured a Sports Car Club of America divisional championship (NorPac division for the Production GT class) and earned an invitation to the SCCA ClubRally National Championships in May.

The team begins its 2000 season this weekend, January 28 to 29, at the Rallye de Québec in Québec City and surrounding areas. This rally is the first event in the Subaru Canadian National Championship, the North American Rally Cup and the Coupe du Québec Pole Position Championship. Rocket Rally Racing is looking forward to the event. "It’s going to be a blast," said Richard.
